In addition to representing members, UFCW
International Union is committed to many charitable and human rights causes.
Leukemia research is the union's official charity, one that every local and
regional office raises funds to support. Most also "adopt" a cause as
they see needs in their own communities, and many offer scholarships.
Local 141 conducts a leukemia fund raiser every year and assists an area women's
shelter.
Contributions are raised through a variety of
endeavors: walk-a-thons, auctions, penny drives, sales, golf tournaments, any
event the individual local chooses.
UFCW is the largest single contributor to the
Leukemia Research Fund Canada.
